Join us as we explore the home of British Art from 1500 to the present day with our expert guide and our very own Outpost London community member Camilla Harper! Camilla has an affinity and a special place in her heart for the Tate and knows the lovely place well. She will share with us insights on Tate Britain and Henry Tate only a person who knows the Tate well can provide.

Description:  

Tate Britain is part of the Tate network of galleries in England alongside with Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St. Ives. Opened in 1897, it is the oldest gallery in the network which houses the most comprehensive collection of British art since Tudor times. It used to be known as the National Gallery of British Art and changed its name to Tate Britain in 1932. It is one of the largest museums in the UK.

By tube:

Pimlico via Victoria Line, 600 metres
Vauxhall via Victoria Line, 850 metres
Westminster via Jubilee, District and Circle Lines, approx.. 1,200 metres 

By bus:

Route 87 stops on Millbank
Routes 88 and C10 stop on John Islip Street
Routes 2, 36, 185, 436 stop on Vauxhall Bridge Road.

Meet our guide:

Camilla returned to London in 2016  after 12 years following their expatriate stints with Shell living in The Hague and Beijing. She started her working life in advertising, then moved to develop the membership at the Tate Gallery in 1999. After studying for her MSc in Social Research at the London School of Economics, she decided to study for her PhD in Cultural Sociology which she completed while living in The Hague. During her final year in Beijing, she was offered a role as Relocation Advisor for Outpost and now works in university administration for the Department of Social Anthropology at her former university, the LSE. She is also part of the Outpost London team as a non-office based volunteer.
